This is a collection of photos taken by my father, also named Mihai Pop, during the Romanian Revolution in December 1989. The photos are taken right after Ceausescu left his palace in a helicopter. A day or so later, shooting started around Bucharest and for several days the army fought (presumably) supporters of the communist regime. Ceausescu was caught, tried, and executed on Christmas day that year. To this date, no counter-revolutionaries have been identified or caught, and most people who died in the fighting appear to have been innocent bystanders or soldiers killed by friendly fire. For more history about this event, see my post on propaganda.
